Heirloom Hearts Quilt - using the Wild Forgotten collection
From the moment I designed this pattern, I knew that I wanted to create one using prints. Bonnie Christine's new collection with Art Gallery Fabrics is truly to die for. It's moody with a mix of vintage. UGH. I love it so much. I did a mock-up with the collection and could hardly wait to get started!

I opted to go with one of Art Gallery Fabrics PURE solids....Dried Moss for the Background fabric. It's such a beautiful green...I'd say it's an even mix of hunter and pea green. I really love how it looks with each of these fabrics!

This green color was really hard to photograph! My camera kept wanting to make things a little too warm....so it was tricky to find the right balance in the settings. For the chain, I use AGF Snow, which again, was a really nice accent. We have kits for this exact quilt in our shop! Note that the fabric requirements only calls for 7 fat quarters (FQ) for the Throw size, but I ended up using all 16. Instead of 4 hearts per FQ, some FQ only have 1 heart. You can either do the same thing or have whole fat quarters as leftover pieces. You could also use your leftover pieces as binding strips.

I was a little worried about using prints for the heart blocks. I didn't want the seam in the middle to make things disjointed. However, since you are cutting rectangles to start, I found that if you pair your rectangles so that they were right beside each other on the fabric, it's really hard to notice the seam! If you want to get really technical, and if your repeat isn't too large, you could fussy cut/ offset the rectangle slightly so that the two fabrics appear seamless within the heart. But overall, you might not find it necessary. I will say, if you have larger motifs in some of the prints, try not to cut through them. With the busy floral prints, I made sure that a large flower wasn't with 1/4" of my cut.
I had so much fun deciding on the layout for this quilt! I mixed up all the prints according to color, value and scale of the print. Once I was happy with where they were, I started piecing. Once you get all of your blocks constructed, this quilt top really comes together in no time! I think it took me 30 minutes to sew all of my blocks together!

I sent this quilt off to Lilo of Trace Creek Quilting for the long arm quilting! We went back and forth a few times on the pantograph, but we ultimately landed on Vinery by Karlee Porter! I wanted something kind of dainty and earthy and I really love the movement of this!

I was extremely torn on what to use for the binding. Initially, I was planning to use my leftover FQ scraps for my binding strips, but I ultimately felt like it might be a little too busy. I considered using my predictable AGF Magnetism for the binding, but since I had just done that with my Autumn Heirloom Hearts, I wanted to to something a little different. Ultimately, I went with Dried Moss, the Background fabric. There was already so much going with in the quilt with all of the prints that doing an understated binding felt right.

For the backing, I went with one of my favorite prints from the collection, Vine Starling. Doesn't this go perfectly with the quilting?? I love it. We have this backing fabric available in our shop!
Once again, the photoshoot for this quilt was a lot of fun. We found this tall wispy grass and it felt like the perfect setting to show off this quilt!
