Knitted Blooms Quilt - the Rosemary version

When I think about the staple Lo & Behold patterns, Knitted Star is at the top of the list! It's timeless, versatile and overall just a lot of fun to make. I had the realization that I hadn't made this pattern in a while, the last one being this multi-color beauty, so I was excited to revisit this pattern again, but this time with a more subdued and calming vibe. Let's dive in!
I wanted this version to feel reminiscent of spring but still a smidge dark and moody. When playing around with some color palettes for Knitted Star's sister pattern, Knitted Blooms, we landed on this idea and I loved it so much. Since the cover quilt used a green for the background, I wanted to create more variety with the Knitted Blooms samples that I was making, so I decided not to use this palette. But I kept coming back to it...something about the greens and pinks were drawing me in. I had the idea of using the same palette but a different pattern and Knitter Star fit the bill.
The background fabric is Art Gallery Rosemary, with is a nice, medium value green. Anytime I use a medium value for a quilt background, it's always a little tricky to get the other colors and values just right. I found that having a mix of colors that are darker and lighter than the background give the best variety and dimension to the quilt. It can also be fun to throw in one or two fabrics that have a similar value to the background...but you don't want it to be so similar that it completely blends in. I played around with this balance for a little bit before I landed on these colors.
All are Art Gallery Fabrics PURE Solids:
- Background - Rosemary
- Balsam Fir
- Nutmeg
- Mojito
- Pacific
- Macchiato

- Quartz Pink
- Blushing
We have kits for this exact quilt in the shop!
Sandy from Thai Charm did the gorgeous quilting for this quilt and we used a classic Baptist Fan pantograph, which is probably one of my top pantograph designs... it looks good on basically everything! We used a light pink color thread to blend in with the majority of the fabrics in the quilt.
The binding for this quilt is Balsam Fir and the backing is Poppy Patch Winter from Katie O'Shea's Coyote Hill collection for Art Gallery Fabrics. I was immediately drawn to this print when the collection first came out and I knew it'd have to be a backing for a quilt one day. :)
This quilt is so calming and relaxing. I think it's the perfect spring quilt that doesn't feel too light or pastel. I'm so smitten with how it turned out!
